Then, after you’ve reviewed the initial concepts, we schedule a Zoom call to go over the designs. This is the interactive part! During the call, I make changes in real-time or we discuss changes I will make offline.
The front cover is designed to be the “hook,” and the back cover the “sinker.” The two sides work together to create a compelling and persuasive message for the reader.
My job as a book cover designer is to create curiosity on the front cover and then continue to speak to the reader’s interest on the back cover.
My process is a bit different than other designers. My creativity and ideas never surmount the author’s vision they set with their writing. Rather it honors and supports their voice. My cover design process is a collaborative and interactive journey that helps authors clarify their message and bring visual life to their books.
First, we start off with a Zoom call so I can get to know you and your book. And, you can get to know me too! This call takes about 30 minutes and is scheduled at your convenience.
It’s go time! I research other books in your genre and category, combine that with the ideas generated in our Zoom call and begin to work on your cover design.
In 2-3 weeks, depending on my schedule at the time, you’ll receive 3-7 cover concepts . I let the design guide me; sometimes, it says more, and sometimes it says less.
Then, after you’ve reviewed the initial concepts, we schedule a Zoom call to go over the designs. This is the interactive part! During the call, I make changes in real-time or we discuss changes I will make offline.
We are done tweaking the cover and you have a final design. From here I work on the back cover, spine, and final print-ready file.
You do! The author owns all rights to the final design. I don’t ask for any royalties or fee for usage, now or in the future.
If desired, I will provide you with all the source files associated with your cover design. Any individual elements, such as photos, graphics, etc. are owned by the author and if requested, can be provided as individual image files.
Yes! I have designed over 300 covers in nearly every genre including business, self-help, historical fiction, creative non-fiction, education, reference, memoir, young adult, mystery, science fiction, and many more.
The book cover is finished when the author loves their cover. That being said, if a concept is agreed upon and presented and then the author changes the direction, an additional fee will apply.
Half of the design fee is due when the agreement is signed and the balance is due when the design is complete, or 90 days past the date of the initial agreement, whichever comes first.
I am a computer file packrat and have client files dating back over 20 years. I will always have your cover files in my library and can make revisions, at an additional fee, in the future if needed.
