We schedule a Zoom call to go over the designs. This is the interactive part! Together we make final decisions on typefaces, layout, headers, footers, and other elements, all on Zoom in real-time.
Some books are easy to read, and some are not. Why?
Simply, it’s the design. Readability is the most critical factor in interior book design, and I take that very seriously.
For readability, I choose the typeface, size, and alignment based on the size of the book and readability standards.
That’s not to say there is no “design” in the formatting process. The second most crucial aspect of the interior is how the book looks, and reads.
Interior formatting is a balance between functionality and beauty. That combination should not be overlooked or downplayed.
My interior design process is interactive, intuitive, and collaborative, and like my covers, honors the author and their writing
First, we start off with a Zoom call so I can get to know you and your manuscript. And, you can get to know me too! This call takes about 15-30 minutes and is scheduled at your convenience.
In 2-3 weeks, depending on my schedule at the time. I create the entire interior design including body typeface selection, chapter start pages, subheads, header, footer, page numbers, and all other relevant elements present in your manuscript.

I complete the interior layout by manually correct fixing spacing issues, such as widows and orphans, page by page. Then you do a final proof of the completed book layout. At this stage, you are making small changes to the content, if any, and proofing for any design/layout mistakes. After all final changes are made, a print-ready PDF is provided.

You do! The author owns all rights to the final design. I don’t ask for any royalties or fee for usage, now or in the future.
If desired, I will provide you with all the source files associated with your interior design. Any individual elements, such as photos, graphics, etc. are owned by the author and if requested, can be provided as individual image files.
Yes I can! I will want to take a look at your cover so that I can add the look and feel, as well as fonts to your interior.
Yes! I have designed over 200 interiors in nearly every genre including business, self-help, historical fiction, creative non-fiction, education, reference, memoir, young adult, mystery, science fiction, and many more.
The book’s interior is finished when the author is satisfied. That being said, if a concept is agreed upon and presented and then the author changes the direction, an additional fee will apply. Also, the manuscript should have been proof-edited prior to layout. If after the layout is complete and this is an exceptional amount of textual changes, additional fees will apply.
Half of the design fee is due when the agreement is signed and the balance is due when the design is complete, or 90 days past the date of the initial agreement, whichever comes first.
I am a computer file packrat and have client files dating back over 20 years. I will always have your interior files in my library and can make revisions, at an additional fee, in the future if needed.
